One Baby, One Record: Uniting Laboratory and Follow-up Across the Newborn Screening Lifecycle

Newborn screening runs from the birth facility to the laboratory to the follow-up team, yet the systems supporting that chain have often operated in isolation. Serving the baby well means designing for the baby from the first data point.

This session presents an emerging collaborative design uniting three areas of expertise: laboratory information management, integration and data exchange, and newborn screening case management and follow-up. Rather than stretching one platform to do everything, each does what it does best, bound into one solution with a unified system of record and a single login. The presenters share the boundary principle at its heart: the laboratory owns the specimen, and the follow-up team owns the case, across bloodspot, CCHD and hearing screening.

The session also frames procurement as an opportunity, with lessons on how vendor-neutral requirements open the door to best-of-breed partnerships, and closes with 10 to 15 minutes of open discussion.
